With the seasonal window of Blitzertunity about to open, I seek community input on any organizational issues or rule changes that you feel should be addressed before we dive in to 2012.
Looking at the stats from 2011, I feel some changes are needed to the defense rating. I hate to change things every year, but I also don't want to perpetuate broken formulas. The average defensive rating is too low. I have a couple of suggestions.
Currently, the defensive rating is calculated like this:
((Interceptions * 2) + (Defensive Stops / 3)) / Games Played = D rating.
Goalie. Recently voted Least Favorite Position by the player community. A position that, at one time, was reserved for whoever was most exhausted on defense. The evolution of Blitz has put a lot of pressure on the player in this position, but also given him the opportunity to control the game like no one else. In this edition of On The Line, we’ll take a look at goalie position and how it has changed over the years.
In this edition of On The Line, we take a look at the Offensive side of the ball. The game of Blitz is won by scoring 3 goals. Until recently, the only scoring opportunities came while your team was on Offense. Naturally, players have developed creative, effective, and sometimes risky strategies to move the ball down the field and take shots on the net.
We've been away from the game of Blitz for a few weeks now, but I wanted to post this wrap up for historical reference. 2011 was a great season, and we accomplished more than anyone thought we could. The game has continued to evolve, and participation saw renewed growth. I, for one, had a blast this year, and look forward to any post-season activity we can drum up.
It's been an unexpectedly great season... Let's finish it off right. We'll host the last official meet meet of the 2011 season at 10am Saturday, September 24. Bring a friend. I want to see good turn out.
Awesome meet! We played a record 6 games with only 2 teams in attendance. We welcomed a new player, Khile, who put up some serious numbers. We even started on time.... Thanks to everyone who came out on this Labor Day Saturday.
The standings didn't change much, but a meet did in fact take place this past weekend. In our biggest turn-out of the season, 8 players and a couple cheerleaders gathered to say goodbye to one of the founding and most dedicated members of Blitz. Greg will be missed by all.
Timmy D, as usual, ruled the day, scoring 3 goals in one game and compiling 2 more in his other 2 wins. Somebody needs to stop this kid.
By design, the game of Blitz is off-balance. The Offense controls the pace, and to a large extent the outcome, of every play. Defense was originally the other team’s turn, but has since evolved into a game of it’s own. In this edition of On The Line, we will examine how Defense in Blitz has changed over the past few seasons, what effects those changes have had on the game as a whole, and how the players’ stats have been affected.
After a number of failed attempts to get a Blitz meet together, we got it done tonight. Special thanks to Dmitry Kalashnik and his buddy Alex for making the trip down just for Blitz.
